My collection of waterline metal ships that I received (mostly) from my Danish grandparents when I was but a young lad. The manufacturer of all the ships, except where noted, is "Pilot". I finally found some information about Pilot after much searching on the internet. Pilot models were made from 1933 to 1974 by Henning Corsten.
Iain McGeachy has a very fine and extensive website called 1/1200 scale MODEL SHIPS with many fine photographs. There is a page about Pilot models.
Apparently Pilot also made automobile models. The 87thScale site has much information about scale metal vehicle models and a whole page about Pilot.
John Mitchell some interesting information about Pilot models on his North Sea Miniships , which specializes in North Sea ferry models, Pilot in particular.
I was told when I was a child that the ships are made out of lead and I had to wash my hands after touching them. Well, that explains a lot...
